Foreign Driving License

• Driving in Taiwan with a Foreign International Driving Permit (IDP) or Driving License

  Drivers who hold valid international driving permit (IDP) or driving license from a country (or region) that has reciprocity with our country are allowed to drive vehicles within the territory of our country.

  Drivers who hold International driving permit (IDP) or driving license from other countries (or regions) that are not reciprocal with our country are not allowed to drive vehicles in our country.

  Hold an international driving permit (IDP) from a reciprocal country (or region) and drive in Taiwan
  Drivers who hold valid international driving permit (IDP) issues by our reciprocal countries (or region) and will stay in our country for less than 30 days can drive in Taiwan without registering an international driving permit (IDP). Drivers who are going to stay in Taiwan for more than 30 days should apply to register an international driving permit (IDP) from highway supervision authority (Motor Vehicle Offices). International driving permits (IDP) are granted on the basis of equality and reciprocity. However, the terms and conditions of use vary from country to country.   Drivers who hold valid driving license issues by our reciprocal countries (or region) can directly drive vehicles in our country. Driver’s licenses are granted on the basis of equality and reciprocity. However, the terms and conditions of use vary from country to country. • Apply to Register Your Foreign International Driving Permit (IDP)

  Required Documents
  One of the following documents: National: your original R.O.C. ID card and original passport. Foreigner: your original Alien Resident Certificate (ARC) and original passport.( Those who have not obtained Alien Resident Certificate (ARC) only need to present their original passport) Original foreign driving license. Original international driving permit (applications shall not be accepted when IDP is overdue). One color ID photo with glossy single-color background, without wearing hat, with clear facial features, bust shot, and were taken within past 2 years. Do not use image synthesis. Application fee: NT$150. Place of application: Local motor vehicles offices or branch offices.

Drivers who are going to stay in Taiwan for more than 30 days should apply to register an international driving permit (IDP) from highway supervision authority (Motor Vehicle Offices). The valid period of the registration of an international driving permit (IDP) starts from the application date. The longest period shall be 1 year, subject to the valid date on the holder’s resident certificate, entry visa, and international driving permit.
